Scanning depth of field refers to the difference between the farthest distance that the scan head is allowed to leave the barcode surface and the distance that the scanner can approach the nearest point of the barcode surface under the premise of ensuring reliable reading, that is, the effective working range of the barcode scanner. Some barcode scanning devices do not give the scanning depth index in the technical indicators, but give the scanning distance, that is, the shortest distance that the scanning head is allowed to leave the barcode surface.

The resolution of the barcode scanner

For barcode scanners, resolution refers to the width of the narrowest barcode symbol successfully scanned. it is MINIMAL BAR WIDTH, abbreviated as MBW, and the unit is mil. Usually the resolution of the scanner is 5mil, 4mil, 3mil, the higher the resolution, the higher the price. When choosing a barcode scanner, it is not that the higher the split rate of the scanner, the better, but the barcode scanner with the corresponding resolution should be selected according to the barcode density used in the specific application. In use, if the resolution of the selected scanning gun is too high, smudges, deinking, etc. on the bars will also affect the successful scanning of the scanning gun.

The scan width indicator refers to the value of the physical length of barcode information that can be read by the scanning beam at a given scan distance.

The scanning speed of the barcode scanner

The scanning speed refers to the scanning frequency of the scanning beam on the scanning track per unit time.

One-time recognition rate of barcode scanner

The one-time recognition rate represents the ratio of the number of tags read in the first scan to the total number of scanned tags. For example, if the information of each barcode label needs to be scanned twice, the recognition rate will be 50%. From the perspective of practical application, of course, it is hoped that every scan can pass, but unfortunately, due to the influence of many factors, it is impossible to require a recognition rate of 100%.

Note: The test index of one-time recognition rate is only applicable to the hand-held light pen scanning recognition method. If the laser scanning method is used, the scanning frequency of the beam on the barcode label is as high as hundreds of times per second, and the signal obtained by scanning is repeated.

The bit error rate of the barcode scanner

The bit error rate is an extremely important test indicator that reflects the misidentification of the barcode scanner identifiable label system. The bit error rate is equal to the ratio of the number of false identifications to the total number of identifications. For a bar code system, the bit error rate is a more serious problem than the low one-time recognition rate.
